About Me
I love my bees. Honey bees. Queen bees. Workers. Foragers. Drones. Apis Mellifera. I am completely fascinated by the goings-on of the bees. I can sit at the entrance of a hive for ages just watching the bees coming and going, checking out the colours and quantities of pollen in their saddlebags. Spotting a wave of new foragers as they orient themselves to their hive having never been outside before. Or noticing the drones in the afternoon as they return from an unsuccessful mating flight.
Our Products
Honey
Honey from the valleys in the Port Hills. These are raw, unfiltered, not heat treated, single origin honeys. I have kept the honey from each apiary site seperate so you can taste the unique flavours produced by the floral sources of each valley.
Eating Valley Apiaries honey is like sampling good wines.
Queens
I produce beautiful honeybee Queens throughout the season on a medium-small scale available to both commercial and hobby beekeepers. From stock that I have accumulated for a decade, I have analysed the desirable traits in my colonies and bred bees to have very good honey production, a delightful temperament, as well as hygienic behaviour.
Colonies
Available for purchase locally are colonies of honey bees including Nucleus Colonies and Large Colonies
The bees are AFB free and have been treated for varroa. I use an incredibly successful organic approach to varroa control and my bees are very clean! I am a hands-on beekeeper who regularly checks each hive and look after my girls so they are in the best possible condition.
